Plain Raises $15M Series A
Whoop whoop. Product love strikes again 🙌
Plain, a collaborative B2B Customer Support Platform and Connect portfolio company, has raised a $15M Series A round led by Battery Ventures!
When we first met Simon and Matt at the end of 2022, it was a match made in heaven. They are archetypal product founders — with a distinct anatomy and a shared DNA that defines and differentiates them from other company builders. If you’ve met them, you know how opinionated they are about the problem they’re solving and how obsessed they are with user-centricity.
The stars aligned. Connect had the privilege of leading Plain’s seed round. In my original blog post thesis, Investing in Plain, I spoke about the Champions League, knitting (😳), and why B2B customer support was broken — with a desperate need to move away from transactional, siloed email and chat communications towards collaborative customer partnerships. It was a software category ripe for radical change and a next-gen product champion.
A few drivers have changed since we first backed them — like the growing importance of Slack as a key channel and the evolving role of AI — but what remains constant is Simon and Matt’s relentless obsession with crafting a superior user experience and winning through product love. We’re thrilled to continue investing in and supporting them as they build the future of collaborative B2B and redefine how businesses interact with their customers.
A very warm welcome to Battery Ventures (Neeraj Agrawal and Sudhee Chilappagar) to the board. We’re excited to continue investing alongside Index Ventures (Georgia Stevenson and Jan Hammer).
Onward!
